On January 22, 2026, premed fellows attended “Stop the Bleed” training with MRC. This was a part of a national initiative by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Stop the Bleed program that trains everyday citizens to act in emergencies.
In the course, fellows learned how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control it. The first lesson was on the ABC’s of steps to take when there is severe bleeding: Alert 911, find the Bleeding, and Compress the wound. Fellows also practiced three quick and different techniques to control bleeding: applying direct pressure to a wound, packing a wound to control bleeding, and applying a tourniquet.
